Contraindications for ozone therapy

Ozone therapy: description, indications, contraindications
Ozone therapy: description, indications, contraindications
More than a hundred years ago, the poet explained his love for the May Thunderstorm, and since then these romantic lines have been repeated many times by millions of people who also love not just rainy weather, but a thunderstorm, and it was in early May. Why is this special attitude to thunderstorms?

Maybe because it is a thunderstorm, and not just any rain, that gives a feeling of purity and renewal, a sense of energy and even a rise in strength. And many like the smell, which is felt in the air only after a thunderstorm - they even say that the freshness smells so ...

In all these cases, we are talking about ozone. And the person, after assessing the threat of fresh air and clean air and energy, even found the possibility of ozone treatment. It would seem, what is it about this ozone therapy, it's just air? However, not everything is so simple, and even ozone therapy has contraindications.

About ozone a little more

To understand the contraindications for ozone therapy, you first need to consider in more detail what ozone is.

Ozone is a gas that forms in the Earth's atmosphere under the influence of an electrical discharge during a thunderstorm. Strictly speaking, ozone can also be obtained from any other electrical discharge, but a thunderstorm is a perfectly natural source of ozone, which exists for as long as thunderstorms over the planet.

If you turn to chemistry, then ozone - it's almost the same oxygen, but under the influence of an electrical discharge, three molecules of diatomic oxygen are converted into two molecules of oxygen triatomic. As for the formation of ozone, it is formed when exposed to an electric discharge or under the influence of solar radiation from the ultraviolet spectrum.

Although the smell that appeared after the storm, people admired for thousands of years, but in science, ozone was mentioned and described only in 1785, when the Dutch physicist Martin van Marum explored the newly invented electric machine and after a series of studies and experiments came to the conclusion that the electric spark, which is obtained as a result of an electric discharge, creates a kind of "electrical matter" from ordinary oxygen.

However, Christian Friedrich Schoenbane, a professor at the University of Basel, came up with the name for the "Dutch electrician" open to the Dutch, and it happened in 1840. But the assumption that this unknown matter is, in fact, nothing more than a form of oxygen, appeared only in 1848. And only after nearly two decades, in 1865, it was possible to determine the chemical formula of the smell of a thunderstorm, that is, ozone.

Everyone knows that ozone has a very recognizable smell, and even the very name of this gas comes from the Greek word, which means "odorous".

Attention! A person catches the smell of ozone when its concentration in the air is 0.05 mg / l, which is somewhat less than the allowable for a person.

However, ozone should not be too seduced and considered a romantic attribute, since ozone is a very powerful oxidizer, and as a result of violent oxidative reactions involving ozone, explosions are imminent. Although one can not ignore the fact that it is precisely the strong oxidizing properties of ozone that are used to treat drinking water (disinfection).

Can not do without ozone and nature: it is ozone, which is formed from atmospheric oxygen under the influence of solar radiation at an altitude of about twenty-five kilometers above the planet's surface, absorbs dangerous solar radiation and protects life on earth. Thus, the ozone shield of the planet allows the Earth to be proud of the diversity of life forms.

Interesting! The concentration of ozone above the poles is higher than the concentration of ozone above the equator.

It should be noted that ozone protection is not so impenetrable - the thickness of the ozone layer is almost no more than thirty meters, and this layer is very vulnerable to the impact of technogenic pollution.

The ozone layer is actively destroyed by nitrogen monoxide NO, and aerosols, and other inventions of mankind. As a result, the ozone layer above the Earth is getting thinner, with patchy holes-the so-called ozone holes-and the deadly UVC rays, sometimes called simply C-rays, are getting more and more likely to reach the earth's surface.

Interestingly, UVC rays are not even considered when creating sunscreens: first, it has always been believed that they reliably hold up the ozone layer above the planet and they do not reach the earth's surface; Secondly, there is no protection from S-rays - they are deadly for all life on the planet.

And even the weakening of the ozone layer of the atmosphere led to an increase in the growth of a variety of diseases, including (and especially) cancer, among which there is an increase in the incidence of skin cancer, which practically does not lend itself to any treatment.

What else would you need to know about ozone, especially assuming not only to inhale it with full chest after a cheerful May storm?

Ozone is a gas that is considered to be the strongest oxidant that belongs to the first class of danger (extremely dangerous substances), that is, it is a very aggressive substance that can not only cause corrosion, for example, iron but also corrode organic compounds.

Liquid ozone disinfectant solutions are considered almost the strongest, and ozonizers with high ozone concentrations are strictly forbidden for use in the presence of humans since their action can cause serious negative effects on human health, ranging from headaches and increased fatigue to suppression of nervous activity and burns of lungs of different intensity.

Attention! In a room where there is ozone (for example, a quartz lamp works), a person, if necessary, cannot stay more than a few minutes. Is it dangerous!

Ozone therapy as a kind of physiotherapy treatment

Ozone is widely used in medicine, both in traditional medicine and in medicine, unconventional.

Initially, ozone was used for disinfection, including for disinfection of wounds, which was widely used already during the First World War, and in the twenties of the 20th century, ozone was used to treat influenza.

After some time, the German doctor Albert Wolf began to use ozone in the practice of treating cancer, including gynecological cancer and cancer of the rectum.

In the middle of the twentieth century, Joachim Hansler, also a German physician, invented a therapeutic ozonizer that allowed for the use of sufficiently high concentrations of ozone for therapeutic purposes, and in Italy, cosmetologists around the same time received very good results of ozone in cosmetology and aesthetic medicine.

Until now, the medical use of ozone remains very controversial, which is explained by the availability of ozone not only useful (medicinal) but also harmful (toxic) properties.

Officially, ozone therapy is recognized and widely used in many European countries, including Austria, Switzerland, Germany, Italy, and Spain, where even ozone therapy medical societies have been established and are operating.

Attention! Any medical procedures using ozone should be performed only by licensed doctors who have appropriate training.

Therapeutic properties of ozone

As a result of numerous studies that were conducted in research centers and in clinical institutions around the world, useful therapeutic (therapeutic) properties of ozone were established and confirmed.

  • Firstly, bactericidal, fungicidal and virucidal effects of ozone have been repeatedly convincingly confirmed. It is these properties of ozone that were used in medical practice first.
  • Secondly, ozone increases oxygenation of the blood, that is, it saturates the organs and systems of the body with oxygen.
  • Third, one of the proven useful properties of ozone is the enhancement of metabolism, that is, the activation of metabolic processes in the body.
  • Fourth, ozone has demonstrated its anti-inflammatory effect on the body.
  • Fifthly, many studies have confirmed the ability of ozone to stimulate muscle and nerve relaxation, which causes an analgesic effect.
  • Sixth, the use of ozone therapy can increase the amount of urea and the total amount of proteins in the blood.
  • Seventh, ozone therapy significantly activates pro-oxidant systems of the body, as a result of which the immune-modulating effect of ozone is provided.

Attention! For a complete demonstrable assessment of the effect of ozone therapy on the human body, randomized controlled clinical trials have not yet been conducted.

Modern medicine uses the ability of ozone to have wound-healing, anti-inflammatory, and immunomodulating effects, as well as to destroy all kinds of bacteria, viruses, fungi, and protozoa.

It has been repeatedly proven in the clinical practice of different medical centers in different countries of the world that in the systemic application of ozone therapy (it is a question of intravenous administration of ozonized saline), ozone restores the transportation of oxygen in the body; normalizes the hormonal background and metabolic processes; removes intoxication organism of almost any nature; improves blood microcirculation and dilates blood vessels; has a very positive effect on blood clotting.

Clinical practice and the results of studies have repeatedly confirmed that the use of ozone therapy courses has allowed very many patients, including patients with chronic diseases, to reduce the use of medicines produced by the pharmaceutical industry, or even to cancel such chemical medications. Of course, this is very important, especially given the rather high cost of many drugs.

Areas of application of ozone therapy

Proceeding from the convincing results of the clinical application of ozone therapy in different countries and with different diagnosed diseases and conditions, at the present stage ozone therapy is widely used in many fields of medicine.

  1. In dermatology, ozone therapy is used for monotherapy or in the complex therapy of herpetic injuries, seborrhea and eczema, alopecia, neurodermatitis and atopic dermatitis of various etiologies, furunculosis, mycoses of various etiologies and localization (including fungal nail lesions), for the treatment of problem skin.
  2. Virology successfully uses ozone therapy to combat such complex infections as herpetic infection, cytomegalovirus infection, Epstein-Barr virus, papillomavirus infection, and hepatitis.
  3. In gynecology with the help of ozone therapy successfully fight with inflammatory diseases of external and internal genital organs (with acute and chronic), with colpitis and vulvitis of any etiology. To apply ozone therapy in gynecology, it is very important that the treatment does not need to be interrupted for the time of menstrual bleeding.
  4. In obstetric practice, ozone therapy has been successfully used to prevent and treat intrauterine infection of the fetus; at the threat of a miscarriage; for the treatment of early toxicosis and late restenosis; with anemia of pregnant women; with postpartum infections and with other problems.
  5. Urology uses ozone therapy methods for the treatment of urethritis and prostatitis of any etiology, as well as for the treatment of cystitis and pyelonephritis.
  6. Gastroenterology uses ozone therapy to combat diseases such as gastritis with increased or decreased acidity, gastric ulcer, duodenal ulcer, colitis, hepatitis, including chronic, cirrhosis of the liver of various etiologies.
  7. In therapeutic practice, ozone therapy is successfully used to combat diseases such as hypertension, encephalopathy, ischemic heart disease, rheumatism, arthritis and arthrosis, diabetes, upper respiratory tract diseases, allergic diseases and even migraines.
  8. Cosmetology is one of the first fields of medicine that successfully uses ozone therapy, including correction of facial wrinkles, for the treatment of cellulite, for combating fat deposits (especially the fight against local fat deposits). In addition, ozone therapy is very successfully used to prevent unwanted age-related changes in the skin, especially the skin of the face and neck.

Interesting! The convincing results of clinical studies of the effective use of ozone therapy in dentistry and in the treatment of herniated discs have been published.

Methods of modern ozone therapy

Modern clinical ozone therapy uses proven methods that have been approved by many successfully practicing doctors and medical centers:

  • Intravenous introduction of ozonized saline.
  • Small autohemotherapy (the introduction of a small amount of own blood, previously mixed with ozone for the acquisition of even more pronounced therapeutic properties by blood) with an ozone-oxygen mixture (MAGOT).
  • Large autohemotherapy (own blood, pre-mixed with ozone, is injected into the patient for 30-40 minutes) with an ozone-oxygen mixture (BAGOT).
  • The patient's use of ozonized distilled water.
  • The patient's use of internal and external ozonized vegetable oil.
  • Rectal insufflation (leading to the rectum) of the ozone-oxygen mixture.
  • The gassing of the extremities or the scalp (by exposure to ozone).
  • Inhalations with ozonated water or oil.

Attention! The American Cancer Society believes that to date there is insufficient evidence of the effectiveness of ozone therapy in the treatment of any disease.

Contraindications for the application of ozone therapy

Ozone therapy as a method of treating a variety of different diseases of different etiology and localization has been repeated clinical trials in many famous clinics and research institutions in many countries, including clinics in Germany, Italy, France, the United States of America, Israel. This method has received a lot of positive feedback from doctors and patients.

However, it should be remembered that ozone therapy has many absolute contraindications when any procedures with the use of ozone are strictly prohibited.

  1. Absolute contraindication for the use of ozone therapy is a decrease in the ability of blood to clot, that is, any state of hypercoagulation, which include thrombocytopenia, bleeding from any internal organs, stroke.
  2. Ozone therapy is contraindicated in case of myocardial infarction (acute form); in all other cases, the possible harm and the benefit expected from the application of the method should be correlated.
  3. A decisive obstacle to the use of ozone therapy - acute alcoholic psychosis. Contraindicated ozone therapy, if the patient is diagnosed with a convulsive syndrome, that is, sudden frequent involuntary contractions of the muscles caused by pathological impulses of the central nervous system (CNS).
  4. In no case should ozone therapy be used in thyrotoxicosis, that is, with thyroid disease, in which the level of thyroid hormones increases in the blood. Contraindication for the use of ozone therapy is acute pancreatitis, that is, the acute phase of any of the diseases and syndromes that cause inflammation of the pancreas.
  5. Ozone therapy is strongly forbidden for individual ozone intolerance.
  6. In obstetrics, contra-indication for the use of ozone therapy is considered to be the possibility of bleeding of any intensity, since ozone can exert a thrombolytic effect (increased blood flow).

Conclusions and results

To use or not to achieve modern medicine, everyone decides for himself, based on the study of all possible information and based on the opinion and advice of the attending physician (it may be worth consulting with several competent specialists and listening to several points of view).

However, even if ozone therapy does not have to be used as a method of treatment, breathe incredibly clean, fresh and fragrant air, which happens only after a thunderstorm - it's just wonderful!

At first, the gusts of wind, the instantly blackened sky, the bright stripes of long lightning, flew by suddenly. A little later - the first May thunder, or a summer angry thunderstorm with lightning, or succeeding one another and merging into an endless series of thunderstorms, or a rapid thunderstorm rain ...

And then - a multicolored and incredibly smart rainbow on the whole sky and a smell that happens only after thunderstorms ... And even if you just breathe after the air, the mood rises, new forces and new ideas emerge. But what about, because the thunderstorm has not always washed the earth and washed away everything superfluous and unnecessary, but updated, revived and encouraged to enjoy life.
